PCB DFM Checklist
PCB DFM checklist for design for manufacturing review
DFM review catches avoidable fabrication and assembly issues before a PCB order is placed. This checklist is useful for KiCad, Altium, EasyEDA, and Eagle projects.
Fabrication DFM checks
- Trace width, spacing, via size, and annular ring match the manufacturer capability.
- Copper-to-edge clearance is suitable for the fabrication process.
- Solder mask slivers, paste openings, and exposed copper areas are intentional.
- Silkscreen does not overlap pads, test points, or small component bodies.
Assembly DFM checks
- Component spacing allows reliable pick-and-place and rework.
- Polarity and pin 1 indicators are visible after assembly.
- Large connectors, tall parts, and heat-generating components have enough clearance.
- Do-not-populate parts and hand-soldered parts are clearly documented.
Production-readiness checks
- BOM parts are available, correctly packaged, and not end-of-life.
- Programming, calibration, and test points are reachable.
- Thermal, power, and current paths are reviewed for the expected load.
- Board revision, file names, and vendor instructions are consistent.
